The next Challenge was to let our Twin Club be part of our new years celebration.

While we received a whole presentation with pictures and greetings from istanbul, we collected pictures of what the members of the RAC Bremen were doing on New-Years-Eve and how they celebrated the new year. The result was the card below. :-)

We were ready to contact them at the promised time. We were supposed to cook a delicious taste, Onion Pie which our dear friends from our twin club gave the receipt of. After preparing the dough we said hi!:) to our friends via skype. They were also excited to cook and taste our receipt which is a traditional taste, Kısır. Then we started putting the ingredients in the dough and finally put it in the owen and we let the excite began while waiting for the pie to be ready to taste:) ıt was perfectly cooked after 25 minutes and the taste was amazing, eventhough we could not imagine that pie could be that delicious... At the same time, our twin club was done about our receipt and we both started to enjoy our meals:)
That was a real fun to work and meet with our twin club again and looking forward to the other challenges:)

Ayça Güntülü ALKANThe Twin Club Experimenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11625531534831794478noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051253305838550962.post-68145769890937756582016-01-19T11:09:00.002+00:002016-01-19T11:09:45.441+00:00We are back! Let the "Twin Club Challenge" beginn...Friendship is a gift you have to work for every day. To stay in contact with friends that live far away, you have to be creative and committed, so that you do not loose sight in each other. This Blog was created to do exactly that. To reach out to our fellow friends in another country and to show how friendship without borders can be achieved. Now there is a different chapter that is yet to be written. With a new approach we will try to show how you can stay in touch and stay friends without seeing each other.
Creativity, commitment and friendship are the key idea of this new project.
In a number of challenges, the Rotaract Club of Bremen and Galatasaray Rotaract Kulübü are trying to deepen their friendship for each other. In taking a vital part in each others club life, projects and in having a prosperous exchange in ideas.
In the following months we are going to show you what kind of challenges we have created for each other. The Twin Club Experimenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11625531534831794478noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051253305838550962.post-28280461068730754962013-10-07T13:04:00.003+01:002013-10-07T13:05:15.523+01:00Twin Club Awarded Clubs Galatasaray and Bremen Continue to Work:)After winning TCA, you must wonder whether we still do projects and
After last year's
intriguing project Dinner Challenge, this year we started to make Film
Challenge Nights. While Bremen members watch a Turkish production, we
watch a German one. We again try to communicate through Skype.

Now the next step may be a combination of Dinner and Film Challenge. I think we're ready for it:)

In addition to this fun project, we are also very excited for our friends' visit to Istanbul, most probably in November:)

We'll
do our best to make a great programme and welcome them in beautiful
Istanbul. The months of November are a bit cold in Istanbul but hey! Our visitors
come from Bremen:)

We can't wait for November:)

We also congratulate Bremen Rotaract for Autumn bREMen 2014:) We'll be there, can't miss that.

As
a person who already visited Bremen, I would like to say that, it's a
magically cute city with beautiful people living in it. Don't miss
Both of our clubs had been extremely busy with so many things.

In Istanbul the preparation and performing of the annual International Youth Forum in May took time from all the members - additionally to all the other running projects.

In Bremen it was the same with the Charity Run - all powers were hold here.

Additionally we had applied together with our Twin Club Relationship for the "Twin Club Award", an annual competition held by the European Rotaract Information Centre (E.R.I.C.) - and made it to the final 3! Very cool! But it also means work, because we have the possibility to present our idea in two different occasions in Rome during the European Convention (EuCo), which means preparing presentations and so on.

And last but not least: our project "Cooking for Peace" turned out to be much more work than previously believed. Cooking all the wonderful recipes we received - like we originally planned - didn't work out, so we decided we had to break it down to one recipe per participating club. We cooked and cooked and cooked - and gained pounds and experience. Some recipes didn't work out as planned at the first time, so we had to repeat them, which brought more work.

Last Monday the last recipe was finally cooked - about 6 weeks later than planned. Since then we are layouting the book, talking to printers, begging them to print in a very short time enough books for us to take to Rome.

This week therefore meant working night shifts - or as we also like to say: "Service Above Sleep".

We hope the final product will be as good as we imagined, and we really hope you all will like it.The Twin Club Experimenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11625531534831794478noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051253305838550962.post-61729414233502418332013-03-16T02:29:00.000+00:002013-03-16T02:48:52.373+00:00Our Joint BulletinsHi everyone,
First of all, I' d like to tell that we missed you and Bremen a lot.
Dear friends,

This is Kıvanç from Rotaract Club of Galatasaray. I was one of the lucky six people to have a chance to visit Bremen and meet members of Rotaract Club of Bremen. I'd like to say a few words regarding our visit.

As most of you already know, we, as Rotaract Club of Galatasaray have been carrying out many joint projects and activities with Rotaract Club of Bremen, since the beginning of this term. Led by one of the former members of Galatasaray, Emre Adam, we've done joint house parties that we called Dinner Challenges, in which we cooked each others traditional cuisine. We also skyped at the same time. Then, we created this blog. "The Twin Club Experiment" has had thousands of visitors from all around the world.

These were things you already knew. Now, I'd like to write details of our trip to Bremen.

We, the crew of Galatasaray, consisting of Me, Emir, Efe, Ayşegül, Anıl and Fatih, met at the Istanbul Atatürk Airport at the morning of January 25th, Friday. We checked in, went through passport control, and then had a little chat till our gate is open. We've talked about Air Crash Investigation Series on National Geographic Channel. We concluded that the probability of a plane's falling down has decreased a lot over the years passed. We've found a giant screw near the aircraft, but luckily it was of no problem.

We've landed in the pretty airport of Bremen in 3 hours. The city looked white and incredibly nice. Tim, the president of Rotaract Club of Bremen, was at the airport to welcome us. We left our luggages at Emre's Place and had a little city tour. Weather was a bit chilly (around -10 celcius) and there were snow on the ground. Sun was standing at somewhat lower position than what we used to know, making the whole city look like a huge movie set. On the very first day, as soon as we arrived, we were fascinated by the city. Although the city is a bit small, it was fantastic! And despite the cold weather, the streets were indeed warm!

After the short city tour I was talking about, we finished the day at Marlen's Place with a great house party. We were 17 people in total at the house that day. We chatted about ourselves and our countries, and tried to get to know each other. That house party was also the 4th Dinner Challenge. We ate the sauce prepared by tuna fish first, and the one with yogurt, which was quite similar to what we call haydari. There were 2 recipes for challenge: Köfte and Pancakes. The question was, who was going to eat that much food? But that problem is resolved by itself, all köftes were gone within 5 minutes. After köftes, we cooked pancakes and ate them all as well! To sum up, that night was hilarious.

On Saturday, the second day, we were 10 people at the beginning. We took a longer trip of city. Seen the great buildings in Bremen in detail. Then, we visited Beck's Brewery. During the brewery tour, we've learned a lot about their awards, history and details of production. At the end of the brewery visit, they offered us their beers, the ones with lemon, lime, sprite, orange, and some more. That was a great chance to see the headquarters of one of the most well-known beers in the world.

We continued to wander around Bremen. We were 12 people at that moment. We took an "End Polio Now" picture in front of the famous Musicians of Bremen. We had a dinner in a nice restaurant and then went to Emre's Place to have a mini house party. We drank tea and ate chocolate. We've talked about details of dolls that we brought from Istanbul. We've talked about our countries. We've talked about TV series and movies. That night was great too. We had a lot of fun.
Then, Ayşegül, President of Rotaract Club of Galatasaray and Tim, President of Rotaract Club of Bremen, have signed the Twin Club Agreement in the presence of District Guvernor. By signing this document, we, Rotaract Club of Galatasaray and Rotaract Club of Bremen, have officialy become twin clubs! That was a great moment for us. In our belief, this document is not only a piece of paper. Indeed, it is the symbol of our friendship that will last forever.
We were able to visit the great exhibition of Hundertwasser on Tuesday morning. Then we said farewell to each other and Friederike has guided us to the airport. We've landed in Istanbul safe and sound.

Now, we're waiting for members of Rotaract Club of Bremen to visit Istanbul too! You can make sure that you will be more than welcome in our hometown!

Here, I'd like to thank all members of my club who came to Bremen, who helped in the organization of this trip, and who participated in our joint projects with Rotaract Club of Bremen.

Also, I'd like to thank to all members of Rotaract Club of Bremen for the trip! You've put great effort in this visit in order to make it as much fun as possible, and you all were just perfect! It was a great experience for all of us to meet you. Thanks!

And also, I'd like to thank all Rotarians who did come to our joint meeting and helped us spreading the word.

Lastly, I'd like to say "Thanks a lot!" for the one who leaded both clubs to create great friendship bonds. He spent a lot of time on the relationship between clubs. Thanks a lot Emre! We're happy that we followed your ideas!

Thank you guys, for having us as guests! It was a great experience! Don't forget, you're always welcome in Istanbul!

All the best,

Hello again! :)

Now it's my turn to write some of my experiences regarding the latest dinner challenge that we've made on the 20th of October :)

Since I've got used to do the same type of evenings and meetings in Istanbul named "Ocakbaşı", I did not hesitate also for this time to welcome our club members in my very little flat (yes. believe me or not, while I was writing this blog entry, I've just made a step-calculation, the whole flat is about 8 feet or something...oh man, it is indeed tiny!)

Jonas - me - Tim

This time our goal was to make another Turkish dinner, which as per our previous correspondences and phone conversations with our Turkish friends from Galatasaray Rotaract Club was simply called "Cerkez Tavugu" :) A historical chicken dish, which we as Turks normally eat as a "meze" or let us say a "intermediary meal" near the main course was in our hands to be prepared!

Jonas came first. He had brought a very nice white wine :) It could sound different to drink before meals for Turkish people, but we did here anyway :) After a couple of white wine and a couple of Hennessy, our president Tim came and he also brought a very nice red wine! My personal wine experts are currently Jonas and Tim, whom I have a big reliance on regarding wines ;)

Tim getting ready to cut the garlics :)

Jonas - pure expert in mincing the chicken!

Then, we started the preparations :)

- 1.5 liters of water
- 2 pieces of chicken burst
(had 6...therefore we made from 6...and it became a main course! :)
- about 2 glasses of Walnut
- 2-3 pieces of garlic
- olive oil
- salt and red pepper

PRESENTING BLOG DELEGATE:
Dear fellows,
I thought our second dinner challenge is a great chance to write to our common blog. Let me first introduce myself. I'm Ayşegül, 28 years old and born in Istanbul. I am a film maker and I also work as an assistant director in commercials and feature length films. Very recently, I started giving lectures on film in a university. I've been a rotaractor for almost 8 years. For 2012-2013 term. I'm the president of Rotaract Club of Galatasaray. It's a pleasure for me to make efforts to make the world a better place and I really enjoy to create and make new projects with my rotaractor friends. I'm married and I have a cat. I like science- fiction, swimming and writing my own stories. I also like listening to music a lot!

2nd DINNER CHALLENGE:
And as for the Twin Club activities;
We really enjoy doing new things and learn about your culture.
Last weekend(20th of October), we were at Sami's house for October House Party and we did our second dinner challenge with you, Bremen Rotaractors, who were on Emre' s house at the same time.
We start with the patatoes and then we put all the ingredients to a pan and we had ourselves a very great Bratkartoffeln. At the same time Bremen Rotaractors did circassion chicken with our recipe. (by the way, it really looked great on my cell phone:) ) We used our high- tech mobile devices again:) to communicate online and we passed information about the phases until we completed our dinners. This time, wifi was a bit problematic, but still we managed to keep up with 3g :)

We, of course, consumed it real fast, considering there were 20 people on the house:) It was delicious.
For the next time, we want to increase the excitement just a bit and send a more challenging recipe:) We'll of course do our part, if you send us a more difficult meal too :) I think we are ready for this:D

Here are some photos from the lovely evening:)
Luckily nothing serious has happened, but time issues and summer holidays in both clubs were mirrored in the blog: we encountered the "summer hole".

But the communication thankfully didn't stop, it just went on via mail in the meantime, and a lot of planning was going on:

the next Cooking/Dinner Challenge

the visit of our Turkish friends to Bremen

the exchange of minutes of meeting

the setting up of the formal Twin Club Agreement

So, a quiet period on the blog? Yes!
A quiet period in the project? No!!
A problem that could endanger our experiment? Definetely not!!!

We are still on our way to a Twin Club Relationship and we are making big steps forward! :)The Twin Club Experimenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11625531534831794478noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3051253305838550962.post-20059368983822171462012-08-31T23:07:00.000+01:002012-10-11T01:08:12.907+01:00Dinner Challenge No. 1 - Site: BremenOn Saturday the 25th of August, our two clubs finally had their first common event: the Cooking Challenge No. 1.

Bulgur wheat, tomatoes and lemons in Bremen

We had exchanged recipes (German Kartoffelpuffer for Istanbul, Turkish Kisir for Bremen), bought all ingridients and were ready to start.

There were some big differences though: in Istanbul around 15-20 Rotaractors had gathered with perfect summer weather, a big kitchen and an even bigger terrace, while in Bremen we were in five in a small kitchen and with the rain hitting against the windows.

Members of Galatasaray Club cutting potatoes

How could we know that? Well, we used modern technology to make it a truely joint event. Emre, the Bremen Twin Club Coordinator, brought his tablet and "installed" it in the tiny kitchen and switched on Skype.

Aysegül, president of Galatasaray Istanbul Club, did the same on her mobile phone. Both devices had cameras and therefore we could see each other.

Cake in the oven

While the Istanbul girls and guys were peeling and cutting potatoes and onions, we chopped parsley, cooked bulgur and fried onions. We had decided to also go for a Turkish cake, which we had prepared already beforehand. It was baking in the oven and smelled really good while we were preparing the Kisir.
All present Rotaractors were involved in the preparations and it was especially funny to talk to our Turkish friends in the meanwhile and see them preparing a German dish.

Our Kisir started to actually look like on the picture sent by our friends :)
As a "side dish", our president Tim had prepared some meat, which he fried in the meantime.

Daniel and Tim presenting our dinner

While the Kisir was cooling down, we decorated our dinner table, inspired by our friends in Istanbuls, whose table looked absolutely stunning (they showed us via Skype).

And finally we had our dinner!

From left to right: Johanna, Javier, Tim, Daniel and Emre (taking the picture)

Conclusion: It was a great evening, we had lots of fun cooking, and some of us even could improve their cooking skills. But the best thing was definetely the communication with our friends in Istanbul!
1 onion, diced
1-2 tbsp tomato paste
1 lemon juice
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp cumin
First put the bulgur in a large bowl and pour two cups of hot water on it (it should stay like this for 5 minutes). Meanwhile in a medium sized pot, place the onion and olive oil. Cook until the onions turn light brown. Add the salt, tomato paste, lemon juice and cumin.

Dear friends from Istanbul,

here you have the recipe for your house party on Saturday.

We had to think of a typical German recipe, which

is good to be eaten in summer, as we guess that in Istanbul it's much hotter than here at the moment.

should be without pork

is typical for Germany

which has ingredients that you for sure can buy in Turkey without searching too hard for them

which is possible to translate into English without complications

We decided for a quite simple but very yummy one:
"Kartoffelpuffer mit Apfelmus". This means more or less "potatoe
pancakes with applesauce" (the internet says, it's a little similar to
"Mücver").

Here is the recipe for the Kartoffelpuffer (for 4 people):

You need (for the potatoe pancakes):
12 large potatoes
3 onions
ca. 8 tablespoons flour
2 eggs
salt and pepper
oil

You need (for the applesauce):
2 kg apples
2 tablespoons sugar
¼ liter of apple juice
some lemon juice
a litlle ground cinnamon

How to prepare the potatoe pancakes:

Rub potatoes on a large grater and season with plenty of salt and some pepper. Add eggs and diced onions. Sprinkle with as much flour that the potatoe mass is covered (can be more or less than 8 tablespoons). Stir everything properly. Batch-fry potato pancakes (must swim in oil), drain on paper towels.

I am Gautier Brunet. I am 27 years old and I have been living in Bremen, Germany for a year now. I was born in Tahiti and grew up in a small town next to Cannes, in Southern France. I studied in Paris and Boston and acquired my initial professional experience in the Netherlands and in France. I am now working as a mechanical engineer on Ariane 5, which is the European launcher.

In my free time I enjoy playing rugby. I am very proud that the Bremen team just moved up to second division.

I am living proof that it is possible to learn the complicated German language in a year when you are motivated. Don't get me wrong, I still have a long way to go to be fluent but people more or less get what I'm trying to say.

I find this experiment really cool and look forward to meeting you all, in Germany or Turkey!

Bisous! :)

Following a long preperation period, I realized that the passport number in my visa was wrong the day before I started out to the supersonic tour of Europe with my dearest friends Emre and Bora. I went to the consulate immediately, expecting an apology (I even thought of the possibility of gaining citizenship for this mistake, yes I seriously did think of this possibility). Whatever... Overall, They didn't even give me a proper apology and I spent my two hours for nothing.
Finally, I got my passport with the visa in it and started a joyous tour of Europe with my dear friend Emre from the Bremen Rotaract Club. We started the trip from Bremen but later on we travelled to Amsterdam, afterwards to the legendary city of Paris, and we finally finished in Prague.

I must say, this has been a great international trip with wonderful memories :)
Hello everyone!

I’m Ferdağ from Rotaract Club of Galatasaray, Istanbul. For this term, I’m the director of Professional Services.

The idea of keeping two different clubs in touch is great! Thanks to Aysegul, Cansu, Johanna and Emre for this. Beacuse we both do great things in our own countries but being international is another important thing of being rotaract and if we make this right, then our successes will be complete!

I am open doing any Professional devlopment projects with you, Bremen people:). I would like to contact with your director and see what we can do together.

Oh and a little info about me as well;
I graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Interior Architecture BS Programme, and continued masters on History of Architecture. Now I’m writing thesis, and holding a junior interior architect position in a little firm. During my bachelor education I lived in Ghent, BE for 1 year as an erasmus student and had chance to visit some places in Germany but never been to Bremen. This project may be a great opportunity to visit you guys in Bremen.

Kind regards

Tonight the Bremen Rotaract Club had quite a productive meeting. First we listened to a presentation of a local organisation which helps people with handicap.

Then we had the "tell everyone about your ideas and how far you are with the project you're working on"-part of the meeting. The club was updated on many things, upon these:

Next Buy-1-More-Activity

Hands-on-Activities:

distributing soup to homeless people in Bremen

redecorating a children's farm together with our sponsoring Rotary Club

Fix date for our charter party weekend: 25th til 27th of October, 2013 (save the date!)

Fix date for our 5th charity run: 5th of May, 2013 (save the date!)

A big topic was of course the onging (and upoming) project with Galatasaray Rotaract Club. I presented the blog to the club and announced a "call for recipes" for our cooking book and dinner project in the not so far away future. And Emre told us about another project Galatasaray is working on and where we could participate in - more about that another time.

So, to sum it up: a very productive evening.
Hello to all! This is Emre from Bremen!

I work as an operator for a shipping company based in Überseestadt - Bremen and am also the club photographer :)

So, you can say it's a "Clark Kent" thing going on here for me ;) During daylight hanging around with vessels, and during nighttime and weekends try to catch the life and preserve it into films and cards :)

I was a member of Galatasaray since 01/2007, during those times I was in various and numerous projects in the club (e.g. being a two-time-editor of RotaPigeon - the D.2420 magazine of Rotaractors in Istanbul), assisting nearly all of our club committees, and also worked as the club's photographer :)

And since last year, I've been a proud member of Rotaract Club Bremen!

I believe that it will be a quite enthusiastic journey between two clubs and the relationship will last years and years and years and yea.... :))

Very happy to be a part of this collaboration, cannot wait to prepare
Turkisch food and even cannot wait see how our Turkisch friends in Istanbul prepare German food ! :)
I'm Johanna from Rotaract Club Bremen. Currently I'm past president in my club.

I work in the quality department of a software company. In my free time I love to travel, cook with and for friends and read. Luckily many of these hobbies can be performed with Rotaract, since most of my time ends up here. And that's great! :)

For this project I wish both clubs all the best, and hope that we can all meet soon in real life!
